As one of the co-founders of The Kingston Prize, I was pleased to see your review of exhibition in Calgary. We are lacking public feedback on the portrait prize, and would welcome comments, positive or negative, about the Prize and the way it is developing. Your review is a very good start.

My pleasure, Mr. Brown! Thank you to you and your wife for setting up the Kingston Prize for Contemporary Canadian Portraiture, which brought so many well-executed works to Calgary, and which, I hope, continues to encourage artists across the country. The calibre of those works was so inspiring, and as a reviewer, the only disheartening part was selecting only four or five to display due to the limitations of the suite101 format. There were so many more that I would’ve loved to call attention to and write about. I can only imagine how difficult it must’ve been for the adjudicators to create a shortlist.
Best,
Simone
